What is the corona break for families?
Home schooling, corona quarantine, household and working in between — in the company or in the home office. It's stressful. It's no wonder that after more than two years of pandemic, the air is out. The air is thick, small discussions quickly turn into quarrels and you haven't been able to see the wallpaper for a long time. If only a vacation was in sight now...
The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs also believes that families need a break from everyday life during the pandemic. And that's even when the holiday budget is just as empty as the supermarket shelf for toilet paper at the start of the pandemic.
That is why there is now a corona break for families: A family vacation that is largely funded by the federal government. So that parents and children can finally breathe again.

How much is the corona break subsidy for families?
The basis for the Corona break subsidy is accommodation costs. Instead of the usual price, you only pay a tenth of the costs for your family vacation. The remaining 90 percent will be provided by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs for you.
The costs of your food are also affected by this funding if it is included in the accommodation price. However, your visit to a restaurant, a trip to the ice cream parlour or an afternoon in the swimming pool are not eligible for funding.
You also pay the travel expenses for the journey to the accommodation from your holiday fund as well as the local tourist tax.
Basically, you get a discount for everything that is included in the room rate. Your vacation fund must be used for everything else.

How long is the corona break for families?
You will receive funding for a maximum of seven consecutive nights. Whether you and your family make full use of this period of time is up to you. You are also welcome to spend just a few nights and take a leisurely short vacation.
However, it is important:
You will only receive the subsidy for your corona break once. You can't split the seven nights into two trips.

Which families receive the vacation allowance?
Do you have one or more small children? Maybe you're even a single parent? Your vacation fund is empty because there is simply not enough of your monthly income left over? Do you, your partner or one of your children have a disability? Then you really deserve a Corona break.
Because the vacation allowance is intended for families who urgently need a break from everyday life but may not be able to afford it without help.
According to the Federal Ministry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, you will receive the subsidy if your family eine meets the following conditions:
- “They have a lower or medium income that falls below a certain limit. This limit depends on which people live in your household or you receive benefits such as child allowance, housing benefit or basic insurance (unemployment benefit II). In this case, at least one accompanying child must be a minor.
- One of your children has a disability level of at least 50. The child does not have to be a minor. Income doesn't matter.
- As a parent, you have a disability level of at least 50. You are traveling with at least one minor child. Income doesn't matter. ”

Until when is the offer valid?
The offer is valid until the end of 2022, which means that your overnight stays will only be funded if they take place this year. So if you're planning to combine your Corona break with a New Year's Eve vacation, you'll pay part of your stay yourself.
It is therefore worthwhile to be quick if you and your family want to get one of the coveted places during the holidays. Because if your kids are already required to attend school, you are dependent on weekends and school holidays. Exemption from classes for the corona break is not possible.
