Berlin, 17.09.2022. Gen Z trusts Gen Z. For the “Financial Education on TikTok” project, the financial education app “Bling” is teaming up with the agency Garden of Youth, which focuses on young target groups. Bling aims to improve the financial literacy of children and young people — because financial education remains a private matter in Germany. “Topics such as budget, stocks, interest or taxes were never addressed during my 12 years of schooling,” says Nils Feigenwinter, 22-year-old co-founder and CEO of Bling.

Instead of hoping for education reform, Nils Feigenwinter invented the Bling Card and App after graduating from high school. With the prepaid card, children and young people pay independently in stores and on the Internet. And with the accompanying “Bling” app, the whole family learns how to handle money. An idea that is well received: Bling already has thousands of users and prominent support from investors such as Verena Pausder and André Schürrle.

In order to teach financial literacy to even more young people, the start-up is adding a channel on TikTok to its app. “It is important to us to let financial topics take place where young people are — the social network TikTok is a great addition to that,” explains Sophie Linder, Chief Learning Officer at Bling, who is responsible for the TikTok channel. Among other things, Linder has already led the educational initiative of the non-profit Finanztip Foundation and reached an audience of millions on TikTok.

“Gen Alpha, the successor generation to Gen Z, creates completely new usage habits. They trade virtual gaming currencies and prefer to build their own virtual worlds instead of being sprinkled. With bling, we are showing how to address exactly these topics as a first mover,” says Urs Meier, Head of Client at Garden of Youth. Garden of Youth has many years of experience with organic content on TikTok and supports Bling across platforms with strategic, editorial work, production and community management. Shortly after its launch, the channel is already reaching over a million young people on the platform.

About bling

Bling is a start-up from Berlin founded in 2021 that improves the financial literacy of children and young people. Founded by 21-year-old young entrepreneur Nils Feigenwinter, Bling developed an app and an associated prepaid card to teach children and young people about financial education directly at the payment interface with playful and educational aspects. The idea is not only very well received by families — Nils Feigenwinter was also able to convince well-known investors of his idea: entrepreneur Verena Pausder, former professional soccer player André Schürrle and the renowned venture capital fund “La Famiglia” invested in the start-up.
